Felixstowe Chamber of Trade & Commerce is pleased to announce that the town will play host to a Continental Market on Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th & Monday 5th May.
The Chamber’s representatives were very disappointed with the turn out of stalls for the French Market held last October. Shaun Rudduck, Chairman Comments ’Marche De France, who organise the market, were so fantastic at their first visit in June that we invited them to come back in October. It wasn't until 6am on the morning of the market that we started to realise that only half the number of stalls would be present. At that stage nothing can be about it. So, not giving up hope we have organised for a different market company to visit for the May bank holiday weekend which coincides with the famous Car Rally. The company has over 6 years experience in arranging markets in the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Italy. I am confident that the combined activities should pull in the crowds and provide additional trade for our local businesses'.
Enjoy the diversity!
Set your senses free to roam through the warm ambiance of the Mediterranean with sun-ripened olives, Parma ham, "saucissons", garlics and fruits from south of France. Invoke images and spark memories of that Continental holiday. The crafts and Handbags from Paris. Pass by the pungent cheeses and sample wonderful Muscadet wines from a family vineyard in “Frontignan”, Swedish cider and Calvados. Smell the mouth watering freshness of the bread and croissants baked in front of your eyes and indulge your taste for the exotic with “charcuterie”, fine pates and smoked sausages from Germany. Grace your kitchen with Mediterranean pottery, tablecloths from Provence or some Dutch Flowers and spoil yourself with homemade biscuits from Brittany, Belgium chocolates, and dry fruits from Poland or Dutch waffles. Fill a gap with a "crępe", a "Tartiflette" from the Alps or some paella ...and much more to experience!
The taste from elsewhere
Most of the products come from “the terroir" (the land) of the stall holder and are produced by small organisations such as family businesses, farms or small factories where traditional methods are used, maintaining high standards of quality.
Ambiance
The traders will wear the period costume of their home countries, providing an amusing aspect to this event. Particular attention is also given to the stall decorations and is representative of the country they come from.
