Art on the Prom, Felixstowe’s seventh annual contemporary art fair, takes place this year on Sunday 5th September along the picturesque sea front promenade, between 10am and 4pm.
Attracting artists from every genre and discipline, the fair showcases a myriad of original art works for everyone to enjoy. So far this year the event has attracted a record number of 85 artists who will be displaying and selling their original works, in which painting, drawing, glass, ceramics, photography and jewellery are all represented.
There will also be a variety of entertainment and workshops available for visitors to take part in. Taking place in the SpaGardens, workshops include willow sculpting, decorative painting, tie dye, ceramics and painting. These workshops are open to all, and Art of the Prom also has facilities to support children with disabilities. All the workshops are free to enjoy, so why not drop in and try your hand at a new artistic skill?
Entertainment includes live music, from the prize winning Co-op brass band, the popular barrel organ and contemporary acoustic bands – so there will be something for everyone’s taste. There will also be a children’s art competition, and a variety of entertainers such as stilt walkers, jugglers or magicians.
During June and July, Art on the Prom artists have been leading workshops in local schools and the children’s work will be on display on September 5th.There is also a children’s competition to be judged on the day.
Art on the Prom is supported by grants from local councils as well as sponsorship from local businesses. It is a non-profit making event which aims to promote economic well-being and foster a pride in the community.
